Probably the only train set that isn’t sought after by collectors.

And another thing of similar vintage.

I like it. FWIW, this is the set I had as kid, and I’m pretty sure I would prefer the sleek passenger train with lots of windows (though that tiny cab is sort of weird):

Thats the train that started my LEGO obsession. I got that train for christmas 2002, then my birthday I got the Octan gas station and police station and had a neat little town with a cargo yard :D

Makes me feel old... I never got into the Lego trains. My first trainset was an O gauge Marx set. Still, I like anything with a flanged wheel on rails...

Late ‘90s to early ‘00s Lego is best Lego.

Too many ez-mode pieces with today’s sets, not enough suspension of disbelief.

Also, real-talk, the new Bionicle ain’t got shit on the old one.

It ain’t real Lego unless it comes in a box that says “Lego System”

Wait, old Lego trains are collectible? Tell me more, because I still have all my many, many old Legos (my son played with them until he moved on to video games and live, non-plastic animals).

You missed the golden era, sorry. Early-to-mid ‘90s (after the City and Technic stuff proliferated to include trains, airports, and ships, and robotics, respectively, but before all the movie licensing, easy custom pieces, and easy, pointless Bionicle and other TV tie-ins) is the best. And I know, because my Lego-playing days ended far too close to when my buying-Legos-for-a-kid days began.

If they’re very old (1980's and older) or if they’re intricate and/or based on real models (Super Chief or Emerald Night).

Y’know, if you’re willing to get rid of a couple...

I didn’t miss it, I was playing with Lego at that point, too. That said, I know you are mis-remembering that because the movie licensing didn’t take off full-swing until the mid-00s. Before then, we were still in the era of Explorers, Insectoids, etc. and those sets were the shit.

I was parodying your comment and the fact that I agreed with it—how ridiculous is it for we adults to be talking about which era of a toy we loved as children is best? And yet, I completely agree with everything you’ve said here.
